would you recommend doing this trip (kunming-dali-lijiang-shargri la) during the xmas season?

Yes. It is a good time to visit Yunnan in winter since it will not be very crowded and the weather there is not very bad. Although the temperature is not too low in winter, you should prepare the warm clothes for night and sunglass during the day.
