weather for May & Sept

I have a lady that is planning on touring the highlights of China, Beijing to Shanghai, including a Yangtze river cruise. Leaning towards Sept., but considering May. Does not like cold weather, but does not want lots of rain either. Is May or Sept. the better month to visit ? Thank you
