Is Physical examination necessary for Spouse (L) Visa?

I am confused from different news... From web and also some of my friends says that for spouse visa physical examination is not necessary while some people says during apply for L visa they ask for Physical examination record... who is right and what are the actual requirements?

If you will stay for more than 6 months, physical examination record is required.
