Medical for Z visa Mainland China

Hi, I have the letter of invitation and work permit for a z visa. I'm Canadian but the letter of invitation says to apply in Hong Kong because I'm moving from Jakarta. I was just talking to a lady who says that even if I lived in Canada, I would have to go all the way to mainland China on a tourist visa, do a medical, and then go to Hong Kong or Canada to get my visa. Is this correct?

Did you get the work permit issued by China authority?

Hi Ryan,

Yes, I have the work permit. the only thing I'm missing is the Health Certificate. Any idea if I can get that at one of HK's public hospitals?

I have not heard of this before, but if it is written in your invitation letter to apply in HK, you can follow them. And you'd better do medical check in China as you will need it when you apply for residence permit few weeks later.
