You are right. Not everyone can enter the Canton Fair. People who have the entry permit can be allowed to go there. So the permit plays the role of the ticket.
Besides, the permit needs to be obtained in advance, not on the spot.
The fee to get a permit is CNY500/day, CNY900 for two days, CNY1200 for three days, CNY1500 for four days and CNY1800 for five days.

Bob, I often attand Canton Fair. I know the rules clearly. If you are not from China and have passport. You only need 100 RMB to register the CARD, and one photo. do remember take your passport to regist the Card.And this permit enterance card can use forever.
