well, I'll take the train from Hanoi, Vietnam to Nanning, arrive at the local railway station around 10ham. After that, can I buy a ticket to chengdu in the day of travel (depart at afternoon) ?

There is only one train running daily to reach Chengdu. It departs at 12:50. You may have a try to buy it at the railway station, but not so sure to get one. You'd better book it online in advance.
