2 week holiday in Beijing

Im about to plan a 2 week holiday in Beijing coming october/november . Would like to ask if to stick my whole trip only in Beijing or try to catch other areas . Honestly i dont like too much internal flights during my holidays so a trip to Shangai is not on my plan . I would appreciate any nice tips of any places of interest to visit outside Beijing lets say 1 hour away by train .
