Australian getting Chinese visa in Italy

I will be getting a tourist visa in Rome to visit China. I will have an airline ticket to China but not a round trip booked as I do wish to extend it while in China. Will this be a problem for me?

If you have no return ticket, you can provide an invitation letter from a Chinese tourist agency instead. Otherwise, you may be refused visa with only a one-way ticket.
