It was first built in 1407, under the reign of the third emperor of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and finished its building later in 1420. The Forbidden City was repaired many times in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).
In the Ming and Qing Dynasties, it was the residence for imperial family members.
It is hard to tell you the whole history about the Forbidden City, so you can refer to this website, which introduce the Forbidden City in detail. https://www.travelchinaguide.com/cityguides/beijing/forbidden.htm

Hi. It looks as no one has seen the actual Website that was to have the Virtual Forbidden City. I saw a video on the History Channel, and it referenced the year 2008 on my Cable TV's Guide, and they said in the video that the Palace was to open as a Virtual museum, and chat like a MMO type game somewhat like one I play regularly knows as Wizard101. The tour is though expected to be more like a chat were they have designed it to be more lifelike then the game I just referenced. I have sent a message to The History Channel seen on Comcast Cable TV here in New Jersey, and have yet to receive a reply. If anyone has actually found, and seen the actual Virtual Forbidden City Tour. Please let everybody know here on this site, as it looks as I'm not the only one interested, and it is supposed to be an awesome experience Thank You.

Hi, Lightsttn1. I also know the Virtual Forbidden City, which was developed by the Forbidden City and IMB together, but now it is closed to update. There are many disadvantages of the old version. It is hard to tell you the reopen day. So you can wait the new version patiently and the new one will be much better than the old one.
