Transit visa - multiple stops in China

Hello,

I have booked a flight from Osaka to Bangkok via Beijing. I arrive into Beijing at 4.40pm then leave Beijing at 4.20pm the next day so am within the 24hour time limit for a transit visa. However, I have just found out my flight from Osaka to Beijing goes via Shanghai - so my actual first arrival in China is slightly earlier - is the 24hour transit visa still OK?

Thanks
Quinton

How long will you stop in Shanghai before going to Beijing?

So, the two stopovers in China are for a time longer than 24 hours. You need to apply for a China transit visa in advance.

Thank you very much for the information.

I read that a visa is not required in Shanghai if the stay is less than 48 hours and 24 hours if staying in Beijing. I am in Beijing less than 24 hours and Shanghai less than 48 hours - so although it is true the two stopovers are longer than 24 hours I thought I would be OK without a visa?

Thanks again

No, you misread the regulation. If you transit in two or more cities in China, and the stopover in China is longer than 24 hours, you need to apply for a China transit visa in advance. 48 hours visa exemption in Shanghai and 24 hours in the airport are two separate policies for direct transit.
