About:Chinese Consulate in Melbourne

We are a couple travelling to China from Australia and wish to visit Tibet as well.

We are a couple travelling to China from Australia and wish to visit Tibet as well. Does your embassy organize visas, invitation letters and Tibet Permits for both places. Can you please advise us, as we have our air tickets for China booked for the 21st Sept 2012 and we have been trying to get documents for both countries for the past two months and have got nowhere.

First, I want to correct you that Tibet is an Autonomous Region under PRC, so you should apply for a China tourist visa and a Tibet entry permit for your trip.

However, individual visitors are not allowed to visit Tibet. You have to take part in a China tour group organized by an authorized Chinese travel company, and then the travel company wiil offer help for your Tibet entry permit. I would like to recommend you TravelChinaGuide.

Furthermore, I heard that the policy of applying for a Tibet entry Permit becaome stricter. Only an organized tour group of five or more tourists with the same nationality and traveling together to Lhasa will be qualified to get the permit.
