COMPLETING THE STUDENT VISA FORM

Do you really have to fill or complete the visa(x) form in pen? The instruction "Forms may not be filled by hand with a pen: all fields must either be filled online and printed, or typed using a type writer, in CAPITAL letters -- the only exception is Chinese name and signature" Am confused, I really want to know how true this assertion is. Moreover, is it accepted to type it, but you only sign with a pen? I need your urgent answer.......

And about the visa form, do we have V2012 format ? or we can still use the 2011 edition. Thanks
