About:Chinese Embassy in U.K.

Must a China visa always be obtained from a traveler's own country?

Must a China visa always be obtained from a traveler's country of citizenship or can it be obtained through a China embassy in another country? I am currently in China and in the process of obtaining a work permit and visa. Must I return to my home country to obtain a visa or could I go to a nearby country to obtain the Z visa?

That is required according to China visa regulation. If you already entered China. You can take these documents to apply in HK through the Commissioner's Office of Ministry of China Foreign Affairs.
