Chinese visa for Vietnamese researcher living in Italy

Hello,
I am Nguyen, I am living in Genoa, Italy. I am invited to give the presentation for an international conference held in Shanghai next month. I have two questions that I am not clear and hope you can help me:

1. Can I go to Roma to give my visa application instead of Florence?

2. Assume that I have the issued visa to go to Shanghai for my conference from Italy. Can I use that visa to go to Vietnam then return to China again before coming back to Italy? or can I use that visa to go firstly to Vietnam from Italy, then from Vietnam to China for my conference, then from China back to Italy?

Thank you very much.

No, you need to apply from Consulate General of China in Firenze. If you get a single entry China visa, you can not return back to Shanghai again after visiting Vietnam. So, you can go to Vietnam first then visit China for the conference.

Thank you Joe. But according to a website of a visa agency, it stating that " The period of validity refers to the period of validity of a visa itself. The holder of a visa is eligible to enter China at any time prior to the expiry of its period of validity (allowed to enter China even before 24:00 on the last date of its period of validity) provided that the granted entries on the visa have not been used up".

If I understand correctly, I can enter into and exit out from China as many times I wants as long as in the during valid duration.

No Nguyen, it based on entry times on your visa. If it is M as multiple, you can enter China many times at any time. But if you get a single entry visa. You can only use it to enter China once time during its validity.

You are right Joe, now I think I understood. If I apply for double entry, I can enter in China two times from a foreign country, i.e. i can go to Vietnam from china and return there before combing back to Italy, is that right?

Thank you again Joe, you are so nice :)
