Australian Citizen applying for transit visa overseas

Hi, I am currently in Germany and require a Chinese transit visa for my journey home to Australian. In speaking to the Chinese consulate in Munich (Germany) i have been advised that an Australian citizen can only apply for a Chinese visa inside Australia. Is this correct, and what option do i have given that i am in Germany until my trip home?

thankyou

Yes, unless you have residence permit or long term visa in Germany. May I know how long you will stay in China during this transit. As I know, if your stopover is less than 24 hours without leaving the airport, you are not required visa.

In total I am in transit for less than 24 hours, my problem is i fly from Amsterdam to Beijing then fly from Beijing to Guangzhao, then Guanangzhao to Melbourne. Even though the transit is less than 24 hours because i transit in 2 cities i understand i need the transit visa. I really do not know what i can do?

Did you confirm this with your airline company? As Chinese visa regulation goes, if you transit in 2 cities in China, you may able to get a 24 hour Stay Permit during the first stopover at the Frontier Defense Inspection Station.
