About:Chinese Embassy in U.K.

i will be traveling from thailand to china and returnining after 1 week. will i need visa for china.

i am flying from the uk. staying in thailand for one month but for one of those weeks i want to visit shanghai.will i need a special visa to enter china and will i need one to return to thailand for the remainder of my visit.

You need to apply for a China visa in advance. If you are in UK now, you can apply China visa in UK before leaving. A single entry China visa is enough and you can use it to return back to Thailand.
