You can apply for a family visit visa L to China. The family visit visa can be valid for 1 year, and it can be extended before it expires. Residence visa is very difficult to get since it has numbers of requirements.

You need to prepare following documents and apply for visa in India:
1. Application form V2011A
2. Original passport valid for at least six months with at least 2 blank visa pages, and one Passport photocopy.
3. One recent passport size photo.
4. The original and copy of the Kinship Certificate or the Birth Certificate and the Marriage Certificate.
5. An Invitation Letter from you son in China.
6. Personal Written Statement (Covering Letter,with details as follows: A. Destination; B. name, address and contact number of your son)
