hotel booking is necessary requirement?

Is it necessary requirement to have the hotel pre-booked? because i have friends and relatives residing in HK, I will be staying with them.

If you will stay with your relatives or friends in HK, an invitation letter in which the sponsor agrees to provide financial support and accommodation, proof of relationship and one copy of the sponsor's HK ID are required.
