Invitation and inquiries

There is contradiction between this website and the Chinese Embassy, i applied as a tourist today with the bank statement of 6,382us including hotel reservation and the flight booking ticket and the complete visas application form along with my photo but i was rejected!!!because they said i needed an invitation from some one! why? and especially i am going for a holiday trip more over i don't know anyone there? what is the way forward? time is running for me...also please email me every necessary information needed? thanks
