Please check on the number of entries on your visa. Does it says M(multiple), 1 or 2 or zero?

If you have a multiple entries, then no problem. If you have 1 (or two), then you can only use the visa for one (two)times entry (they will put a cross mark each time you use it for entering this country).

I am not sure of what to do if you used up the numbers and then you still need to leave the country, though.

You can go back to your country with your passport, of course. Check you resident permit carefully, you can go out and enter China freely during the validity of your residence permit. It works as a multiple entry China visa.
