About:Chinese Embassy in U.S.A.

I will be working in China for a year. What is the Work Permit?

I will be working at a hotel in Taiyuan, China for a year. My employer has sent me an Invitational Letter but not a work permit. Is this documentation required in order to get a visa?

Yes, if you want to work in China, both invitation letter and work permit are required for Work visa application. So, please contact your employer for this, or check if he meant to enter China with an L visa and then change it into work visa when you are in China.

Joe is right. I think, and I could be wrong but I think you only need the letter, once you arrive your employer will handle everything here in China. Your employer wants you to work in China so I'm sure they will do what is needed :)
