China visa application without Hong Kong ID and birth certificate

I am trying to apply for a tourist visa to china (my first visit). I am a british Citizen was born in Hong Kong in 1980 and came to Uk when i was 8 months old, and have lived here ever since. I have never had a Hong Kong Passport, and i applied for my first British passport when i was about 14 years old. The only thing i have to prove i was born in Hong Kong is my birth certificate. I have still been told i need to provide some kind of Hong Kong ID. Do you know what else i could provide other than a Hong Kong passport? (which i do not have).

Thank you for your help.

Hi, since you have no HK PASSPORT,you are advised to come in person directly to the Chinese Embassy for visa application submission. Extra forms need to be filled under such a circumstance and the length of visa processing will be 10 to 20 working days.

Other required documents you need to bring with you is as following:
(i) Original passport remaining to be valid for at least 6 months from the date of application and with sufficient blank visa pages.
(ii)One completed Visa Application Form (Download) with a recently-taken passport photo;  (iii) Invitation letter from a Chinese organization or a permanent resident in China; or Air ticket booking record (round trip) and hotel reservation;
(iv) birth certificate

Good luck!
