Z-Class Visa Requirements

Hi, I am currently interviewing for ESL positions in Beijing. I do not hold a Bachelor's Degree but do hold a College Diploma and TESL Certification. Most employers are fine with these credentials and have offered contracts that include a working visa.

I recently had an interview where I was informed the Chinese Government would not grant a Z-Class Visa to someone who does not hold at least a Bachelor's Degree. Then, he proceeded to tell me I could come on an L-Class Visa under a Cultural Exchange agreement. This sounded a little fishy to me.

Now I am worried about being able to obtain proper working credentials. My question is: Do I require a Z-Class Visa to live and work in China? If so, do I have the proper credentials to be granted one by the Chinese government?

Thank You so much for your help.

If you want to work in China for term longer than 6 months, you are required and have to apply for a Z visa. As what you said above, your employer has trouble to handle work permit from Foreign affairs office. But if your teaching in China is less than 6 months, you can apply for an F visa instead.
