Returning to xian

I have a train leaving Xian-Shanghai on a monday at 2100 and would like to spend the day at Huashan.
How long does it take to get back to Xian from the mountain?
What is the quickest and most reliable way to get back to xian? (Really can't miss my train in the evening)
How long would you recommend for hiking around the mountain?
