Changing work visa to dependent visa

I've been working in China for 6 years. I'll be leaving my present job soon and will need to change my work visa to a dependent visa to stay in the country with my husband. We were told we'll need to show a notarized copy of our marriage certificate. Must we get it notarized by the Chinese embassy in Malaysia or could we get it notarized in China?
