About:Chinese Embassies and Consulates

If I get some job Or Post doctorate opportunity, then Visa can be extended here in China

I am a PhD student and this is my last year (graduated in July and study visa will expire on 15 July).
1. If I get some job Or Post doctorate opportunity, then Visa can be extended here in China or I have to go back to my country for this?
2. My wife is also PhD student. (if I failed to get job Or Post doctorate opportunity) Can I change my visa from study to spouse visa here in China or I have to go back to my country for this?

The validity of visa can't be extended, but the duration of stay granted on your visa can be extened at the llocal public security bureau if you can provide all the necessary documents. Once issued, a China visa can't be changed.

If you want to continue your study in China or to work in China after your PHD graduation, you will have to go bakc to your home to apply for another proper visa. Even if you can apply for extension of stay, you may only allowed to stay in China ofr another 30 days at most.

However, still there is confusion.
I try to explain my point again.
My current Visa is “X” (PhD valid up to July 2012).I have two options now (a) Post Doctorate (b) “L”* visa (as wife also has “X” visa valid up to 2014.)
Question#1
Can Public Security Bureau office of my city (in china) convert my “X” visa (of PhD) to “X” visa of Post doctorate after 15 July 2012?
Question#2
Can Public Security Bureau office of my city (in china) convert “X” visa (PhD) to “L”* visa dependent on my wife study visa?

(* I think “L” visa is short term visa issued to people visit their family members in china and it can be extended after 3 month period if somebody want to stay more ?)

Can Public Security Bureau office of my city (in china) convert my “X” visa?

See my reply below:
1. you have to apply for a new L visa again. The type of a China visa can't be changed once issued.
2. China doesn't offer dependant student visa.
3. You can apply for an extension of less than 30- days stay in China before the approved duration of stay in china expires.
