US passport holder visiting France wants a visa to China in Paris

Hi,
Is it possible to get a visa to continue from Paris to Shanghai in Paris as I am a US passport holder and only in Paris to visit friends. Or do i have to get the visa in the USA before I leave for France? I don't want to go from France back to USA and then to China. It makes more sense to continue to China from France.
Thanks for your reply.

You have to get China visa in USA before you leave for France because nobody can 100% sure that you will get a China visa in Paris.

Yeah last time i tried it and I was in the same situation as you the Chinese embassy employees just said "reciproque, reciproque!" Which later i understood meant "No way because US Consulates won't give Chinese Nationals visa entry when they are visiting foreign countries." So your chances of getting a visa in France on a US passport while passing through France are probably slim to none. Good luck.
