About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

France to Hainan on US Passport

I only have a US Passport but I live in France. I am planning to go to SYX for a week but flights from CDG go through either PEK or PVG. Will I need a visa for any of this before I travel? Will I be able to extend my layovers in PEK and/or PVG to visit those cities for a day or two?

Unfortunately, you cannot travel to Hainan via any mainland Chinese airport without a visa. Only the flights from outside of mainland China will bring you a benefit of 30 days visa free access for Hainan island/province. So, if you cannot arrange to arrive and depart from Hainan without touching mainland Chinese airports, you need a visa obtained in advance. I'm sorry.
