Working/Tourist Visa Trouble

Recently I acquired an internship in China and tried to apply for the F visa with my letter of invitation from the company, only to be told that the letter needed to some form of approval from the Chinese government (the letter of invitation I showed had an official stamp, stated my full name and passport number etc.). My internship is completely unpaid and I will be in China for 80 days, and I have been there before to study. The company I am working for has told me to get a tourist visa and assures me that these problems are normal and that they will be able to extend my visa once I arrive (this also happened to many students I knew when I was studying without much problem at all, as they left Australia before they received their letter of acceptance at the University).

Will I be able to apply for a 30 day tourist visa even though my flight itinerary states I will be in China for 80 days? How can I come to some resolution for this issue, I am starting to worry. Please help!!

I think there may be some problem to apply for a China visa in such way. Maybe you can change your flight itinerary to 30 days. Or you may ask the Chinese company to apply for a government approval on the invitation letter for you to apply for a China business visa.

Will I be able to get a working visa if I have the letter of invitation from my host company as well as a letter of guarantee from my Australian university? My internship is a part of my degree which is why I am going to China. Frankly I am surprised I couldn't get the working visa with my letter of invitation from the company. My contact at the company has told me that other people have had no trouble getting their working visa with the exact same letter.

James, you can't get a work visa, it's right for you to apply F visa for 80 days internship. It is a solution that you can apply for tourist visa, then extend your visa after you arrive in China.

I think you will find the consulates are giving 60 day visa now for the same cost [$40 in perth] so i would go for one of these--30 days putas you under pressure when you are there--better to give yourself some leeway.
