Both your son and your mother should apply for a China tourist visa to China with the following documents:
1. passport with blank pages and at least 6 months validity left before expiration
2. A truly and completely filled application form affixed with one passport-size photo
3. Invitation letter from you and copies of your valid Chinese residence visa and passport information
4. copy of the information page of their passport
5. round-way air tickets
If it's their first time to China, and your son is more than 18 years old, they should also provide the followings:
1. Original NBI clearance valid for travel abroad
2. if you will sponsor the trip, provide your bank certificate

It's possible for your mother to apply for a extention of stay in China. Foreigners go to China for family visiting can stay in China for at most 180 days for each entry. At the same time, Chinese Ministry of Public Security has made changes to its policy concerning foreigners with immediate family living in China. Your mother and son may be also granted by local Entry & Exit Department either a family visit visa that is valid for one year at most or a residence permit that is valid for one or two years.
