How is the issuance date of a Chinese Visa determined?

Does the Chinese visa take effect starting the day that I apply for it, or is it the date that it is processed, or can I specify a date for it to start a month or two from the date that I apply for it?

I think you mean the validity of a China visa, which is calculated from the date of issue. There will be specific date of expiration on the visa approved by the China Embassy or consulate.
