how to obtain a visa to enter france

I'd like to ask a question out of curiosity. A chinese friend of mine should go to France on the 5th of April for a concert for at least 3 days but his company (he's a singer) told us that he doesn't have the chance to get a proper visa.Which problems could he have faced so that he can't get even that visa?
