I'm living in Yangon and planning to go to China in May. Can I apply for tourist visa here in Yangon? how long does it take and what is the approximate cost?

Yes, you may just apply for the China tourist visa from the China Embassy in Yangon. A normal visa procedure takes 4 working days.  If you holds passport of Myanmar, the visa fee is 25 US dollars (for a single entry).
