You can apply for a Family Visit Visa (L visa), the requirements are:
1. your passport and copy of the first three pages
2. one passport photo
3. fill in visa application form V.2011A
4. the marriage license
5. the copy of your Chinese wife's passport

If you plan to stay in China for one to two year, you should apply for a China work visa. But to apply for a China work visa, you will have to find a job in China first. Just one of you find a job will be ok. Then after the one who has got a China work visa under the help of the Chinese employer, the other may just apply for a China dependant work visa to stay in China.

Sorry Roshan. I must mislead you in my above reply, for I neglect your wife is Chinese. In fact, you can only get a China Family L visa to China now if you won't want to work in China. Though you are only given a 6 months duration in China, you can apply for an extension of 30-stay at the local public security bureau three times during your first year in China. After you stay in China for a whole year, if you won't have any criminal record and you have an apartment, a steady marriage and valid income, then you are permitted to apply for another two extensions of 6-month duration in China. IN the third year, if you meet the qualifications, you may be granted with a temporary residence permit with a validity of one year.

In a word, even if you go to China with the L visa, it's also possible for you to stay in China for a long period of time.

Roshan, if you can provide proof of a long stay in China, you will be granted with the visa. At least, you wili be given a visa with 30-day duration. However, the China embassy or consulate where you will apply for the visa has the final right to this. Good luck!

ROhan, you can't get dependent work visa to stay in China because your wife is Chinese, if your wife is a foreigner works in China, you can apply for dependent work visa, now you can only apply for family visit visa (L visa).

Rohan, I would say all will be decided by the visa officers in the China embassy or consulate who will issue the visa for you.
