You need to prepare the following documents to apply for a tourist visa for family visit:
(1) Original passport remaining to be valid for at least six months from the date of application with at least 2 blank visa pages.

(2) One completed Visa Application Form V.2011A with a recently-taken colorful passport photo (48mmX33mm) stuck on it; if you don't hold a Canadian passport, just a permanent resident in Canada, you also need to fill in visa application form V.2011B

(3) invitation letter from your relative, if your relative is a foreigner in China, the photocopy of his passport and Chinese residence permit are required, if your relative is a Chinese citizen, the photocopy of his Chinese passport or ID card is required

(4) Non-Canadian applicants should provide permanent resident card or work/ student visa of Canada.

(5) Applicants holding a new passport please provide previous passport and copies of Chinese visas records.
