I travel to shanghai, then via train to Hong Kong. I am only in Shanghai for three days, do i need the full visa?

You need a China visa for 3 days trip in Shanghai, the office hours for visa application at Chinese consulate in Dubai is 9:00am-12:00noon (from Sunday to Thursday, excluding public holidays).
