We are planning to visit Shenen in October 2012 to visit my son who works therelan Eastwood his wife and our grandchildren do we need an invitation letter? or just the correct forms passports and photos?

Yes, you do need an invitation letter by your son enclosed with your travel time, purpose and his residentical address and valid contacts and attached with photo copy of his Chinese residence permit and passport.
