American student with residence visa in Egypt planning to visit Beijing

Hello,

I am currently a student at the American University in Cairo living with a residence visa. This upcoming April I am planning a one-week trip to Beijing to visit friends. However, I have to resubmit my passport to the university to update my residence visa in the next few days. I am not sure when I will get back my passport from them in order to send it to you so I can start the visa application process.

How long does it normally take to process the application once you receive a complete form + passport?
