How to Purchase Train Ticket from Shanghai to Beijing?

Hi, I am a US citizen planning a trip to Shanghai end of March. I'd like to take a day bullet train (G type) to Beijing for just the day to see a few main tourist attractions. Then, return to Shanghai the next morning. Please let us know if we should book the train on this website, or will it be better to ask our hotel to help us arrange the train tickets. Thank you.
