length of validity of China tourist visa

How long is a Single-entry & Double-entry visa for? 3 months? And how easy/difficult is it to apply for a 6-month or 12-month multiple-entry tourist visa? I have heard it's gotten more difficult to get a 12-month.

Usually the validity of a Single Entry or Double Entry "L" visa is 3 months or 6 months from the date of issue. This means the holder of the visa shall enter China no later than 90 days or 180 days from the date of issue, otherwise the visa will be expired and is null and void.

It is not as easy as before to get a 6-month or 12-month multiple entry tourist visa to China. If you have visited Mainland China twice in the last year, it is still possible for you to get a multiple entry visa.
