I am travelling to China till Jan 10, 2012 and my VISA expires Jan 13.

Do I have to have extra time on it (i.e. 30 days or so)?

Jay, if Jan 13 is the last date for you to enter China (Enter Before 10 Jan 2012 on your visa), you don't need to worry it. The stay duration is counted from the date of entry, you enter China on Jan 10, 2012, if the Duration of Stay is 030 Days After Entry, you can stay in China till Feb 8, 2012.

you no need extra time however you gonna go out of china before your visa expired.
