10 hours in Beijing airport, is a transit visa required?

thankyou so much for your info, my 17 year old daughter and her 1 year old is coming to live with us in Canada, shes flying from Sydney Aus transiting through Beijing then onto Vancouver, she has to wait 10 hours in beijing airport, and that had me worried regarding extra visas. Do you know if theres anything at all to do whilst in the airport? As shes so young, I dont recommend her leaving the airport at all? would appreciate any info to pass on to her...Cheers :)
