If you go to apply for the business visa, you need to obtain the "Invitation Letter of Duly Authorized Unit" or "Confirmation Letter of Invitation", which is not easy. You need help from the enterprises in China.
If possible, you can apply for the tourist visa to come to China to buy goods , which is easier to obtain. Good luck~

thanks for your timely reply, but what are the processes/procedure for a tourist visa?
my duty station is very close to the chinese embassy in congo town, do i go there to request a form for the above mentioned visa? what is the monitary implication involve and how long would it take me to process it?

You can go to China embassy in congo town to get a visa application form for free, then fill the form, when you fill the 2.1 Major purpose of your visit to China, you choose Tourism rather than Business, once you choose Business, the invitation letter from Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation will be required.

However, for tourist visa application, you need to provide the onward and return flight tickets, hotel booking, 3 months bank statement with sufficient money.

it takes about 1 week for processing.
