How can I obtain a tourist visa as a student

I am a student at one of the universities in Ghana. I want to make a trip to China during this christmas holiday. What are the requirements? And on more serious note, it is my parents who are sponsoring me. Also, what if I am a student and at the same time a worker applying for tourist visa?
