About:Chinese Embassy in Australia

I am a US citizen, can I apply by mail for a Chinese visa while in Australia?

I will be in Adelaide for a month before I go to Beijing to study for a semester. My official acceptance letter from Peking University will be mailed to me. Am I able to apply for a Chinese visa by mail while in Australia, as a U.S. citizen?

I'm afraid no. Mailed application is not accepted in China embassy or consulates in the States. Also, student visa cannot be issued in a third country unless the applicants are living or working in that country.
