About:Chinese Embassy in Sweden

How to do with baby born in China by Swedish father and Chinese mother that are married?

I am a Swedish citizen and married to a Chinese citizen. We have house and wants to stay over there for a longer time but go hack home once/year for visit my parents.
We will have a baby in the end of this year and in regards to that I have a few questions.
Our baby will be considered Chinese as the mother is and the baby is born there.
However the baby will also be Swedish citizen by birth as I am.
If we get a Swedish passport for the baby i.e. renounce the Chinese citizenship, we will have to get a entry/exit stamp in the Swedish passport by local PSB before leaving. How long validity is this exit stamp i.e. how long time can we stay in before this exit stamp expires?
When we return to mainland, the baby will need a visa but if baby and mother, who is Chinese, wants to stay a longer period of time what kind of dependent can the baby get. They will stay for more than 12 months between visits to Sweden. Myself have been holding L multiple with 12 months validity, dont need more as I am working at sea and work 8 weeks followed by 8 weeks vacation.
How long will that kind be valid and how long stay will it be as most? (Will it be a Z?)
What kind of paperwork is needed when apply for it?
Is there any other type as dependent possible and how is the procedure for that?

When your baby is born, you can choose to join Chinese nationality or Swedish nationality. Chinese government doesn't recognize dual nationality, if you get a Swedish passport for the baby, you have to renounce the Chinese citizenship.

The exit stamp on the Swedish passport is generally valid for 30 days, which means that you have to take your baby to leave Mainland within 30 days.

The baby can apply for a Tourist (L) for family visit, after return, your wife can apply for a 1 year residence permit for the baby at the local Exit-Entry Administrative Bureau of PSB. It is easy to get it because the baby has a Chinese mother. Then he/she can stay there for one year.

Please take the birth certificate of the baby, his/her Swedish passport, one passport photo, the copy of your wife's Chinese passport or ID card.

Dear Ryan, Thank you for your swift answer. I have another question regarding the exit stamp. Once the baby is born it will take 1-2 months before the Swedish passport is issued. Then it might take another 5-6 months before we plan to travel out for the first time since baby was born. Is that okay with the Chinese authorities? I mean that we apply for exit stamp up to 7 months after baby birth since the stamp is only valid for 3 months. Or must we apply for exit stamp right away and leave within a specific time frame? Looking forward to your swift reply once again. Thanks in advance!

I know someone in your case take their baby out when the baby is strong enough to travel. But I'm not clear if it's the right thing to do or not. I also heard that your baby should stay in the foreign country successively for two years to renounce the Chinese nationality. Get different answers and make me confused. I think you'd better make confurmation with the local Exit-Entry Administrative Bureau of PSB for the first-hand information.

When your wife apply for the exit visa for your baby at the exit-entry administrative bureau of Public Security Bureau, she can state the demand and the situation, his/her Chinese mother status maybe helpful for the baby to get a long-term one. Please don't worry. the rule for the baby is not strict.

Dear Ryan, I dont know if you still answers questions here but I want to ask another thing. Since eare living in a small town where I am the only foreigner we had a lot of problems with exit permit. It was only after Swedish Embassy contacted Foreign Ministry Affairs who wrote a letter to the local PSB that we were issued a exit book for our son. Now we came back and our son is holding a multiple L with 90 days stay on each entry (same as me). We went to local PSB to get a longer family visit L as I been reading about 1 year multiple with no limit of the stay but they refuse. There is no such type so they will give us a 6 month 0 entry. My questions is, do we need to apply family visit L at the local PSB or is it possible to do this in areas where there are more foreigners and where they are used to this kind of matters? Our local PSB remembers us of course and they were not happy when we stepped in there again asking for long term one when they where wrong last time a got corrected by foreign affairs. I also want to know if it is difficult for a Chinese citizen with hokou in Hubei to move to Beijing? We are considering that as it would be easier with this kind of issues. Can my wife get a residence permit in Beijing although her hokou is somewhere else? How is the procedures? Thank you in advance!

Hi K-G, you have to handle this at your local PSB if you are living there. Moving to Beijing is possible for all your family, but your wife's Hukou can not be changed to Beijing. In my opinion, the 6 month 0 entry is ok you can try to extend it again before it expires.

Dear Alvin, Thank you for your swift reply. When it comes to our sons, I really do not know why we should be happy with a 6 months 0 entry. I know it is up to the officers at PSB to decide but when foreigners in Beijing and Shanghai gets 1 year multiple it seems unfair. We are traveling between these two countries and with a 0 entry we have to renew his visa every time in Sweden as well.

Anyway, when it comes to my last part in earlier question,I know she can not move the hukou book to Beijing and that is why I ask how to do to get a residence permit for her in Beijing and if it is difficult to get. This is not the residence permit given to foreigners but the one a Chinese citizen must have if their hukou is from other province and they want to live in Beijing. What is the requirement and is it difficult to get? Looking forward to your answer again. Thank you in advance!

Yoru Chinese wife may just apply for a Zanzhuzheng (temporary residence certificate) with her Chinese ID card from the local police station where she will live to make her stay in Beijing legally.

as to your question on hukou policy in Bejing, the best thing to is to check its policy, for example, http://news.xinhuanet.com/hr/2012-10/22/c_123851899.htm. It has strict requirements on degree, skill certificate and such stuffs. I'm also from Hubei and I'm going to be engaged with a swedish guy. we are now both in the UK and will pay a visit back to Hubei and Beijing next month. Your post and information are very helpful to us :) wish you have a happy life and healthy kid there!
