Does Chinese passport renewal have to be in person or can it be mailed in or brought in by a friend?

My Chinese passport is about to expire. I need to renew the passport, but I live far away from one of the embassies. Do I have to come in person to get the passport renewed?

Yes, you have to go to the embassy in person to apply for Chinese passport renewal. The Chinese passport can't be mailed in or brought in by a friend.
