Do I need a China visa if i m u.s military going on R&R Leave to visit my family?

I'm going to mainland china. I'm currently in afghanistan,I have a u.s passport. And it's hard for me to get a visa out here. Will I be able to get a visa upon arrival? Maybe get it at Hongkong airport?

You can not get a visa upon arrival for mainland China. But if you will transit in HK, you can try to apply for a China visa through the Commissioner's Office of the Ministry of China Foreign Affairs in HK. The processing takes 4 working days, but if you need, you can use their rush service (pick up on the same day or on next working day) for visa processing.
