how do i get to xian?

I will in China for 10 days during the month of October...travelling to Beijing and Shanghai..I would love to visit Xian to see the Terra-cotta Army and the ancient city wall in Xian. How do I get from Beijing or Shanghai to visit Xian? If possible I would like to  visit in one day.

The best way for you is by air from Beijing or Shanghai to Xian. Since it is the peak travel period at the beginning of October(China National Holiday), you'd better book the flight tickets in advance now.
