Subway and Taxi transportation in Shanghai

Deaar Emma: My sincere thanks for your prompt reply to my questions. You are so kind and wonderful person. Some people said that it is difficult to find a taxi in Shanghai. Do you always have to ask the hotel to call a taxi for you? Or can you just find them on the road when you need one? Also is the subway easy to use and cheap in Shanghai? How do we take subway from Yu Yuan Garden to People square? Approx how much will it cost? Is the cost of the subway depends on how many stops you travel? Your time and assistance are much appreciated! Diane

My pleasure to help, Diane. I didn't find it is difficult to find a taxi, generally, there are taxis waiting around the hotel. I guess they mean peak hours, such as 5-6pm. Subway is easy and convenient but more expensive than subway in Beijing, I would say, because Beijing would have the cheaper subway transportation in the country. NO, it depends on how long the journey you travel, mean by kilometer. If you want to take Yuyuan Garden to People's Square, take Line 10 from YUyuan station to East Nanjing Road, one stop, then change to Line 2 to People's Square, one stop. Fare 3RMB.
